This year the Centre d’Estudis Martorellencs has scheduled two archaeological fieldwork seasons, related to the archaeological sites belonging to the ancient Priory of Sant Genís de Rocafort. These are the monastery of Sant Genís de Rocafort and Church and Settlement of Santa Margarida.

Fieldwork will take place at both sites on different days and people wishing to participate can fill the application form to be engaged in one or both seasons. 
Form April 23th to May 30st registration forms can be submitted.

The number of vacancies available is limited and applicants will be selected according to the following criteria: 
• Participation in earlier seasons at Santa Margarida 
• Calendar and weekly availability 
• Having some experience in archaeological fieldwork. Some vacancies will be fulfilled with participants without any previous experience.
Selected applicants will be notified from June 3th.

Calendars, timetable and work organization

2nd Archaeological Campaign at Sant Genís de Rocafort

Calendar: 

Fieldwork will take place from June 25th to July 6th

Working time: 

Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 2 pm (fieldwork) and 5 to 7 pm (lab work)

Task to do:

The southern area of the Church of Sant Genís, around the area where the cloister and monastic dependences where placed, will be excavated. Tasks include:

  • Archaeological excavation

  • Registering and description of Stratiguraphic Units

  • Cleaning and studying archaeological materials

  • Plan drawing and layout

38th Archaeological Campaign at Santa Margarida Archaeological research Training Course

Calendar: 

Fieldwork will take place from July 8th to 26th

Working time: 

Monday to Friday, 8 am to 1 pm and 4:30 to 8 pm

Task to do:

The western area of the site, with necropolis and habitat structures from 6th to 16th Century, will be excavated. Tasks include: 

• Archaeological excavation 
• Registering and description of Stratiguraphic Units 
• Cleaning and studying archaeological materials 
• Plan drawing and layout and informatics devices 
• Use of data base & GIS applied to archaeology 
• Use of the SigArq Software

Participants will attend to training sessions related to the registering processes of information and the use of specialised software.

In both cases, the organization provides accommodation and board for all participants at the facilities in Santa Margarida during the scheduled calendar. Participants will be allowed to use the facilities during weekends if required.
